A 20 year plan to make the District the healthiest, greenest, most livable city in the nation.
Sustainable DC Partnerships
Sustainable DC is a community-wide sustainability plan. The Government of the District of Columbia will play a leadership role in implementing the strategy, but to achieve the ambitious goals laid out in the Vision for a Sustainable DC, we will rely on strong partnerships with key sectors. Several sectors are already taking strong action, including our colleges and universities, the international community (embassies), and houses of worship across the city. A goal of Sustainable DC is to engage those leaders, include others who are striving to be more sustainable, and work within specific sectors as a whole to bring sustainability front and center in the District.
As the sustainability plan progresses, more opportunities for partnerships with additional sectors will develop. Below is information on two existing strong partnerships.
- The higher education community is helping to create a greener, healthier, more livable city through the District of Columbia Mayor’s College and University Sustainability Pledge.
Embassies and International Institutions

- The embassies, along with other international institutions based in the District, have committed to taking concrete actions to lower their energy and water consumption, increase employee use of transit, and take other sustainability actions through the Diplomatic Missions and International Institutions Environmental Performance, Climate and Sustainability Pledge.
