To become the most sustainable city in the country, DC has drafted an ambitious, yet achievable, vision for the near future.
Working Groups

Sustainable DC has engaged people across the city to raise awareness, gather input, and tap into the wisdom and knowledge of community members, institutions, and organizations. The plan has benefited greatly from this community input, but the conversation must continue, and reach an even broader audience across our neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. In November 2011, Mayor Gray kicked off nine different working groups that identified innovative ways to make the District more sustainable. Over the winter of 2011-2012, hundreds of dedicated volunteers in the nine working groups met every other week to identify and prioritize potential goals and actions within the topics of built environment, climate, energy, food, nature, transportation, waste, water, and the green economy.
